Overview of iyengar yoga
Iyengar Yoga is a purist style of yoga developed by and named after B.K.S Iyengar in the 1960s. Iyengar Yoga is a very meticulous style of yoga, placing the emphasis on precision and alignment. The practice is all about the details of your breath control (pranayama) and posture (asana) and is excellent for building strength and flexibility. Iyengar yoga is great for learning the subtleties of correct alignment for all ages and abilities.
Benefits of iyengar yoga
By working to achieve perfect alignment in each pose, Iyengar yoga students aim to create balance in the body and mind. In addition to helping students gain flexibility, balance, and strength, Iyengar yoga may be useful in the management of certain health conditions like chronic low back pain.
What to expect
The class will end with time for quiet and relaxation which may include some breathing practice (pranayama). You should wear comfortable clothes that don't restrict your movement, for example t-shirt and leggings or shorts. Yoga is practised in bare feet.
